JULY 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted an on-site review of the restoration work at the historic Mubarak Mandi Complex, underscoring the need for timely completion and enhanced efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of the region.
During his visit, the Chief Minister stressed that Mubarak Mandi is not just an architectural marvel but a living representation of Dogra history and heritage, deserving careful restoration and adaptive reuse. He called for making the central courtyard of the complex a vibrant public attraction, capable of hosting cultural events, exhibitions, and heritage walks to engage residents and tourists alike.
CM Abdullah directed the officials to ensure improved accessibility, including proper pathways, visitor amenities, and informative displays, to make the complex user-friendly for all age groups. He further suggested creating spaces within the complex to showcase Dogra crafts, traditional art forms, and regional heritage products, thereby reviving the cultural and economic vibrancy of the area.
“The Mubarak Mandi Complex should not only reflect our glorious past but also serve as a hub for cultural interaction, tourism, and heritage-linked livelihoods,” the Chief Minister said while interacting with officials and conservation experts on-site.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to global conservation standards while respecting the original design and aesthetics of the heritage structure. Highlighting the tourism potential of the site, he urged the department to integrate it into heritage tourism circuits, supported by digital promotions and events to attract visitors.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of restoration work, structural strengthening measures, and proposed timelines for completion. CM Abdullah instructed the executing agencies to expedite work without compromising on quality and authenticity.
Calling heritage conservation a shared responsibility, he encouraged public-private partnerships and community involvement to sustain the project. He assured full government support for funding, planning, and promoting Mubarak Mandi as a premier cultural destination.
The visit concluded with CM Omar Abdullah reiterating the government’s commitment to preserving Jammu’s historical identity while aligning it with modern tourism development strategies.
