JULY 19:In a significant step toward empowering youth and improving educational infrastructure in minority-dominated areas, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Shri George Kurian, inaugurated two key projects under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme in Nilambur, Malappuram district.
The newly inaugurated facilities include a Rs 7.92 crore Skill Development Centre and a Rs 9.97 crore Girls Hostel, both aimed at promoting inclusive growth and providing critical infrastructure in underserved communities.
Speaking at the event, Shri Kurian emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to education, skill training, and economic opportunities for all sections of society, especially minorities. “These projects are not just buildings—they are platforms for progress, designed to uplift communities by equipping youth, especially young women, with the skills and support they need to succeed,” he said.
The Skill Development Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and will offer job-oriented training across various sectors, aligning with current industry needs. It aims to enhance employability among youth from minority communities and support them in becoming self-reliant contributors to the economy.
The Girls Hostel, constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 10 crore, will provide safe and secure residential facilities for students pursuing education in and around Nilambur. It is designed to support higher education for girls by reducing dropout rates caused by lack of accommodation.
These initiatives reflect the core mission of the PMJVK scheme, which seeks to bring socio-economic development to minority-concentration areas through focused investment in education, health, and skill development.
Local officials, community leaders, and beneficiaries attended the inauguration, expressing gratitude for the central government’s support and focus on grassroots development.
The launch of these facilities marks another milestone in the Union Government’s broader vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” ensuring that no section of society is left behind on the path to national development.
