The inspection focused on ongoing construction, operational efficiency, and measures to ensure uninterrupted delivery of safe drinking water to residents.

The Minister assessed the availability of potable water, evaluated filtration processes, and reviewed the progress of the under-construction 3.0 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) plant at Nishat and the 5.5 MGPD facility at Alusteng. During the review, Javed Ahmed Rana directed concerned officials to ensure regular maintenance of the filtration plants, adopt modern best practices in water treatment, and implement robust quality control mechanisms. He stressed the importance of adhering to project timelines to avoid delays in commissioning the new facilities.

Highlighting the need to improve filtration efficiency, the Minister called for the immediate procurement of Alum, a critical component used in the purification process. He noted that timely availability of essential materials is vital to maintaining high-quality water standards.

The Minister reiterated that the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to ensuring access to safe, clean, and quality drinking water for every household across Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that upgradation of water infrastructure remains a key priority under the government’s development agenda, particularly in urban centers like Srinagar, where demand continues to rise.

Officials assured the Minister that the ongoing works are progressing steadily and that efforts are being made to complete the projects within the stipulated deadlines. The review visit concluded with directions for continuous monitoring and prompt resolution of operational challenges to ensure the reliability and sustainability of Srinagar’s water supply system.
