AUG 28: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, chaired a high-level review meeting on August 28, 2025, to assess the status of mobile connectivity restoration in flood-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Secretary (Telecom) Dr. Neeraj Mittal and senior officials from the Ministry of Communications, BSNL, and various telecom service providers. The Minister issued urgent directives to ensure swift restoration of mobile and internet services, particularly in severely impacted districts such as Doda and Udhampur in Jammu.
Officials informed the Minister that most optical fibre cuts have been addressed and field teams are actively repairing damaged infrastructure. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has also enabled Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) in these areas, allowing users to access alternate networks if their primary service is down.
Shri Scindia stressed the importance of uninterrupted communication, especially during natural disasters, and urged for coordinated action between telecom providers and state agencies. He expressed confidence that full restoration would be achieved promptly, ensuring that citizens remain connected to essential services and loved ones during this critical time.
