AUG 29: On the occasion of National Sports Day, a special program was held at Government Secondary School Chewdara, Zone Beerwah, to highlight the importance of sports in building a healthy, disciplined, and progressive society. Addressing the gathering of enthusiastic students, the speaker emphasized how sports not only enhance physical fitness but also instill essential values such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership.

The address also carried a strong social message on the pressing issue of drug abuse, which has emerged as a serious challenge for the younger generation. Students were cautioned about the devastating impact of drugs on health, family, and society. It was reiterated that staying away from this menace is the first step toward a successful and meaningful life. By channeling their energy into sports and positive activities, the youth can shape a brighter future for themselves and contribute to the nation’s progress.

The atmosphere at the school was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of purpose as students actively participated in the event. Their spirit and passion reflected the true strength of the nation—its youth. The speaker noted that such initiatives are vital to guide the younger generation toward constructive paths and empower them to become role models in their communities.

The event also highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports at the grassroots level, in alignment with national initiatives aimed at fostering talent and building a sporting culture across Jammu and Kashmir. Collaboration between institutions like the J&K Sports Council, District Administration Budgam, Sports Authority of India, and Budgam Police ensures that young people are provided with opportunities, facilities, and awareness to excel in sports and life.

On this National Sports Day, the message resonated loud and clear: sports are not just games, but a way of life that promotes health, discipline, and character, while the fight against drug abuse requires collective responsibility from society, educators, parents, and most importantly, the youth themselves.
