AUG 31: Tribal Affairs Minister Javed Rana today visited the Gujjar-Bakerwal Postgraduate Boys Hostel in Jammu to assess the living conditions and academic support provided to tribal students. During his visit, the Minister interacted with students and staff, reviewed ongoing facilities, and announced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing both academic and personal development.
Among the new measures announced were skill upgradation competitions, free coaching for administrative and civil services, the distribution of sports kits, and the provision of tablets for PG students. These steps are part of a broader strategy to empower tribal youth through education, digital inclusion, and extracurricular engagement.
Minister Rana was also briefed on some urgent infrastructural issues faced by the hostel, particularly concerning the drainage system, which is in need of immediate repair. He assured prompt action and instructed the concerned departments to address these problems without delay.
Additionally, the Minister discussed the potential expansion of hostel capacity. Plans are underway to assess additional accommodation facilities in Sunjawan, aimed at meeting the growing demand and ensuring a more comfortable living environment for the students.
He emphasized that the government is committed to improving the quality of life and educational opportunities for tribal students and will continue to support infrastructure upgrades, digital access, and competitive preparation.
