SEP 07: Commissioner Secretary of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Yasha Mudgal, chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, focusing on strengthening the region’s sports ecosystem. The meeting emphasized the urgent need to fill existing vacancies, enhance administrative efficiency, and drive key initiatives aimed at youth empowerment through sports.
During the review, Mudgal called for a greater push in identifying and nurturing sporting talent across urban and rural areas of J&K. She underscored the importance of increasing youth participation, particularly through grassroots-level programs, and improving access to quality coaching and infrastructure.
A major focus was placed on enhancing the union territory’s medal tallies in national and international competitions. Mudgal directed officials to create performance-oriented strategies, establish athlete support mechanisms, and ensure consistent monitoring of progress in various disciplines.
In a forward-looking vision, she encouraged the Sports Council to explore opportunities to host national and international sporting events in J&K. Such initiatives, she said, would not only provide exposure to local athletes but also promote Jammu and Kashmir as a potential global sports hub, fostering tourism and economic growth.
Yasha Mudgal highlighted the importance of upgrading sports facilities, ensuring accountability in ongoing projects, and involving qualified professionals in key roles. She also urged collaboration with schools, universities, and local clubs to build a more vibrant and inclusive sports culture.
