SEP 20:Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted an on-site inspection of the damaged section of National Highway 44 (NH-44) at Thard in Udhampur district. The visit aimed to assess the severity of the damage, review ongoing restoration efforts, and ensure timely relief for both commuters and affected local residents.

During the visit, the Deputy CM reviewed the pace and quality of the repair work being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Expressing concern over the disruption to traffic and the inconvenience faced by travelers and local communities, he instructed NHAI officials to accelerate the restoration process. He emphasized the urgent need to mobilize adequate manpower, machinery, and technical resources to complete the repairs at the earliest.

“The smooth movement of traffic along NH-44 must be restored without delay,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that public safety and connectivity are top priorities for the administration.

In addition to overseeing the repair work, Surinder Choudhary also met with local residents in the affected areas. He listened to their concerns and assured them that the government would take all necessary steps to provide compensation and rehabilitation to those impacted by the highway disruption.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges swiftly and effectively. “We will ensure that affected people are not only compensated but also rehabilitated with dignity and urgency,” he stated.

The Deputy CM’s visit underscores the administration’s proactive approach in dealing with critical infrastructure issues and reinforces its resolve to maintain smooth transportation networks across the Union Territory.

NHAI has been directed to provide regular updates on the progress of restoration and to ensure that alternative arrangements are made for the uninterrupted movement of vehicles in the interim.
