PEMA Foundation Meets Lt. Governor to Champion Artisan Welfare in Kashmir

OCT 07:In a significant step toward promoting the rich cultural heritage of Jammu & Kashmir, the PEMA Foundation, under the leadership of Tariq Dar, met with Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha in Srinagar to discuss initiatives aimed at preserving traditional arts and supporting local artisans.

The meeting highlighted the urgent need to safeguard the unique crafts of the region, which have been passed down through generations but now face modern-day challenges. Tariq Dar emphasized that traditional artisans form the backbone of Kashmir’s cultural identity and must be given the recognition, protection, and opportunities they deserve.

A key focus of the discussion was the upcoming **2025 Artisan Award Ceremony**, an initiative by the PEMA Foundation designed to honor the dedication, skill, and artistry of Jammu & Kashmir’s master craftspeople. The ceremony aims to bring national and international attention to local talent while encouraging the younger generation to engage in traditional crafts.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s efforts and reiterated the administration’s commitment to empowering artisans. He acknowledged that cultural preservation goes hand-in-hand with sustainable development and promised continued support for such initiatives.

The Artisan Award Ceremony, scheduled for 2025, is expected to become a landmark annual event that not only celebrates craftsmanship but also serves as a platform for economic empowerment, tourism, and cultural diplomacy. By connecting artisans to wider markets and government support structures, the initiative seeks to revive endangered art forms and ensure long-term viability for artisan families.

Tariq Dar and the PEMA Foundation remain dedicated to fostering an environment where the traditional arts of Kashmir can flourish, not just as heritage but as a living, evolving force within the community.
