OCT 11:In a significant step toward strengthening girls’ education and promoting inclusive learning in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister Sakeena Itoo inaugurated a 100-bedded Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Girls’ Hostel at D.H. Pora in Kulgam district. Constructed at a cost of ₹2.85 crore, the modern facility is aimed at providing safe and quality residential accommodation to Scheduled Tribe (ST) and underprivileged girls, ensuring that no child is left behind due to socio-economic barriers.

The newly inaugurated hostel is equipped with essential amenities such as spacious dormitories, study rooms, a dining hall, kitchen facilities, and recreational spaces, creating a conducive environment for students to pursue their education with dignity and comfort. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader mission of expanding educational infrastructure and empowering girls from remote and marginalized communities.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized that education is the strongest tool for empowerment and social transformation. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bridging educational gaps and enhancing access to learning resources for girls across rural and tribal areas. The minister also interacted with local students and community members, highlighting the importance of education in achieving self-reliance and gender equality.

In addition to the hostel inauguration, Minister Itoo laid the foundation stone for the construction of new classrooms at Government High School Watoo, further strengthening the education network in Kulgam district. This project aims to address the growing enrollment and ensure better academic infrastructure for students.

The dual initiatives mark a progressive step toward realizing the government’s vision of an inclusive, accessible, and equitable education system in Jammu and Kashmir. By investing in education and infrastructure, the administration continues to empower young girls to dream, learn, and lead with confidence.
