OCT 14:Minister for Agriculture, Javid Ahmad Dar, inaugurated the Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition at Khanabal, Anantnag, showcasing a wide range of modern agricultural technologies, innovative farming tools, and government welfare schemes aimed at transforming the rural economy of Jammu and Kashmir. The event brought together progressive farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, and experts from various allied sectors to discuss sustainable and technology-driven farming practices.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through targeted interventions, timely subsidies, and advanced training programs. He emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of J&K’s economy, and integrating modern techniques such as precision farming, organic cultivation, and drip irrigation will significantly enhance productivity and profitability.
The exhibition featured stalls from departments of horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, floriculture, and sericulture, showcasing government schemes and success stories that inspire young farmers to adopt innovation-led agriculture. Javid Ahmad Dar urged farmers to take advantage of subsidy-based initiatives under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and other centrally sponsored schemes to modernize their practices.
He also emphasized diversification, encouraging farmers to explore horticulture, aquaculture, dairy, and beekeeping as means to boost income and resilience against climatic challenges. “Our focus is to empower farmers with knowledge, resources, and technology so they can become entrepreneurs rather than dependents,” the Minister said.
The Kisan Mela provided a platform for interaction between policymakers, farmers, and agri-business experts, promoting awareness about government initiatives, agri-startups, and credit facilities. Participants lauded the government’s efforts to bridge the gap between research and field application, ensuring that innovations reach the grassroots level.
The event concluded with the felicitation of outstanding farmers who have successfully implemented innovative farming techniques, serving as role models for others across the region.
