QCI, BHEL drive quality transformation in India’s public sector

NOV 12: The Quality Council of India (QCI), in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), organized the Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan at QCI Headquarters, New Delhi, to promote quality, operational excellence, and collaborative learning among public sector enterprises.

The event highlighted QCI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s quality ecosystem through structured frameworks and excellence models. Participating PSUs shared their best practices and innovations in Six Sigma, Lean, Quality Circles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), digital automation, and supplier development. The interactive discussions facilitated benchmarking of quality initiatives and identification of areas for improvement.

Led by Dr. Durgesh C. Gupta, Head of Corporate Quality and Business Excellence at BHEL, the event was organized in association with NABCB–QCI and featured participation from major Central Public Sector Enterprises including BEL, BPCL, EIL, GAIL, IOCL, PGCIL, and THDC.

QCI Chairperson Jaxay Shah reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to nurturing a culture of quality and excellence across PSUs, emphasizing the role of such initiatives in building globally competitive institutions aligned with the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047.

BHEL Director (R&D) S. M. Ramanathan underscored the contribution of PSUs to India’s socio-economic growth, stressing the importance of effective quality systems from design to delivery.

The session concluded with a roadmap for future collaboration, including tailored quality partnerships and maturity enhancement programs aimed at promoting continuous improvement and sustainable excellence in India’s public sector.
