Jan 26: On the occasion of Republic Day 2026, the nation honoured the bravery, dedication and selfless service of 982 personnel from the Police, Fire Services, Home Guards, Civil Defence and Correctional Services by conferring prestigious Gallantry and Service Medals.
Among the awardees, 125 personnel received the Medal for Gallantry for displaying rare and conspicuous acts of courage. These honours were conferred for exceptional bravery in saving lives and property, preventing crimes, and arresting criminals under dangerous and life-threatening परिस्थितियों. The Gallantry Medal stands as a symbol of extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.
In recognition of long-standing excellence and commitment to service, 101 distinguished officers were awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. This prestigious honour is given for a special and distinguished record of service, reflecting exemplary leadership, integrity and devotion to public duty.
Additionally, 756 personnel were conferred the Medal for Meritorious Service, which recognises valuable service characterised by dedication, resourcefulness and consistent devotion to duty. These awardees represent the backbone of India’s internal security and emergency response systems, working tirelessly to protect citizens and maintain public order.
The awards acknowledge the vital role played by uniformed and emergency service personnel in safeguarding communities, responding to crises, maintaining law and order and strengthening national security. Their service often comes with great personal risk and sacrifice, yet they continue to serve the nation with unwavering commitment.
