23 April:Union Minister B Srinivasa Varma has stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed women’s empowerment at the forefront of governance, with multiple initiatives aimed at improving the social and economic status of women across the country.
Addressing a public gathering, the Minister highlighted that several flagship schemes launched in recent years have significantly contributed to empowering women by enhancing their access to education, healthcare, financial inclusion, and livelihood opportunities.
He pointed out that initiatives promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship among women have helped create new avenues for economic participation. Programmes encouraging women-led enterprises and skill development have strengthened their role in the nation’s growth story.
The Minister also underlined the importance of financial inclusion, noting that access to banking services and direct benefit transfers has enabled women to gain greater control over their finances. Such measures, he said, have improved household decision-making and overall economic stability.
In addition, emphasis has been placed on improving health and sanitation, which directly impacts the well-being of women and girls. Efforts to ensure better maternal healthcare and access to clean cooking fuel were cited as key steps in enhancing quality of life.
B Srinivasa Varma further stated that the government’s policies are designed to create a supportive ecosystem where women can thrive in various sectors, including education, business, and governance. He stressed that empowering women is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable development.
The Minister noted that women’s participation in decision-making processes has increased, reflecting a broader shift toward gender equality. He added that continued focus on education and skill-building will further strengthen women’s contributions to the economy.
