A major railway accident was narrowly avoided on Wednesday after a wheel of a goods train derailed near Chhan Arorian Railway Station in Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident occurred at around KM 40, when the goods train, travelling from Jammu towards Delhi, was changing tracks while preparing to halt. A wheel of the train reportedly came off the track during the movement.
The train was stopped immediately following the incident, preventing any casualties or injuries. The prompt action by railway personnel helped avert what could have turned into a serious accident.
Soon after the derailment was reported, a rescue and engineering team reached the location and began work to clear the affected portion of the track and restore normal operations.
DRM Vivek Kumar, along with other railway officials, also reached the site and took stock of the situation. Officials assessed the circumstances surrounding the derailment and monitored the restoration work.
Despite the incident, railway authorities confirmed that train movement on both tracks remained normal and that there was no major disruption to railway traffic.
