Jammu is set to get a major boost to its urban connectivity with the 4-km, four-lane Kunjwani-Satwari Flyover expected to open in the first week of October.
Developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as part of the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway spur, the flyover is expected to ease one of the city’s persistent traffic bottlenecks around Satwari Chowk.
The project is likely to make daily movement smoother for commuters travelling towards Jammu city and areas connected through the Satwari corridor. With traffic volumes continuing to increase along the route, the elevated stretch is expected to reduce pressure on the existing road network and improve the overall flow of vehicles.
The Kunjwani–Satwari corridor is particularly important because it handles traffic entering and moving towards the city from the southern side. Congestion at Satwari Chowk has frequently affected commuters, especially during busy hours and periods of increased movement.
Once operational, the four-lane flyover will allow through traffic to bypass the busy junction, potentially reducing delays for vehicles travelling along the main corridor.
The project also forms part of the wider effort to strengthen road infrastructure around Jammu and improve connectivity with the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway network. Better integration between major highways and the city’s internal road system is expected to become increasingly important as traffic and economic activity grow.
For Jammu residents, however, the significance of the project goes beyond another highway development. A smoother Satwari corridor could mean shorter travel times, fewer traffic disruptions and more predictable journeys for thousands of commuters who use the route regularly.
The proposed opening in the first week of October will therefore be closely watched by commuters and transport operators alike. If the flyover begins operations as scheduled, it could mark an important step in improving traffic management on one of Jammu’s key entry and exit routes.
