New Delhi, September 22, 2026: A preventive health check-up and consultation camp was organised at the National Media Centre in New Delhi on Tuesday for officers, officials and Safai Mitras associated with the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Delhi.
The initiative was conducted as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign, which places emphasis on cleanliness, public participation and the welfare of sanitation workers. SHS 2026 is being observed from September 17 to October 2 under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
RML Hospital Doctors Provide Medical Consultation
The health camp was organised in collaboration with Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi. A team of doctors from the hospital conducted health assessments and provided medical consultations to personnel who attended the camp.
The programme offered participants an opportunity to undergo preventive health checks and seek medical advice, with particular attention given to the health and well-being of Safai Mitras.
The focus on sanitation workers is consistent with the SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivirs component of SHS 2026, under which welfare services, preventive health check-ups and other support measures are being extended to sanitation workers and their families.
Focus on Preventive Healthcare
Rather than limiting the initiative to cleanliness-related activities, the health camp highlighted the importance of maintaining the health of people who contribute to hygiene and sanitation in public institutions.
For PIB personnel, the camp provided access to health assessment and professional medical guidance within the workplace. For Safai Mitras, the initiative also represented a welfare-oriented intervention under the broader sanitation campaign.
The emphasis on preventive healthcare forms an important part of SHS 2026. The campaign has expanded beyond physical cleanliness to include sanitation-worker welfare, behavioural change, waste management and community participation.
Safai Mitra Welfare at the Centre of SHS 2026
The SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivirs are designed to bring health and welfare services closer to sanitation workers. Across SHS 2026 activities, such camps are being used to provide preventive healthcare alongside other welfare interventions.
The PIB camp at the National Media Centre therefore linked workplace well-being with the wider objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva. It also highlighted the contribution of Safai Mitras in maintaining clean and hygienic public workplaces.
The programme reflects an approach in which cleanliness is connected with the health, dignity and welfare of the people responsible for sustaining it. As SHS 2026 continues until October 2, similar activities across government institutions are contributing to the campaign’s broader focus on collective participation and sustained cleanliness practices.
