Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted virtually with participants of the Seva Yatra from Vadnagar to Varanasi, emphasising the role of public service in individual life, politics and nation-building.
During the interaction, Modi said “Seva Paramo Dharma”, or service as the highest duty, should remain a guiding principle. He said the spirit of service should continue even when a person reaches the highest position in public life.
The interaction was part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a month-long initiative launched on September 17. The campaign marks Prime Minister Modi’s 25 years in public life and focuses on connecting youth participation with community service and public engagement.
Seva Yatra Connects Youth with Communities
The Vadnagar-Varanasi journey involves 10 groups of motorcycle riders travelling through towns, districts, tehsils and villages. Participants have been engaging with local communities and taking part in activities including cleanliness drives, plantation programmes and interactions with beneficiaries.
The journey has also included visits and service activities at schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other community locations. The broader journey is scheduled to continue until October 7.
During the virtual interaction, the Seva Yatris shared their experiences with the Prime Minister. They spoke about plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns and their interactions with people during the journey.
Modi Links Service with Development
In his interaction, Modi connected the idea of public service with government programmes and last-mile delivery. He referred to initiatives such as PM-KISAN and the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, saying that the spirit of service can help translate public policies into benefits reaching people at the grassroots.
He also spoke about poverty reduction and housing, citing government figures related to permanent houses for poor families. Modi said that when service becomes part of public policy, it can encourage initiatives aimed at improving people’s living conditions.
Focus on Youth and Viksit Bharat 2047
The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of young people in India’s development journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
He said politics, elections and governance have their respective roles, while emphasising the importance of nation-building and youth participation. According to Modi, the younger generation has a dual role as contributors to India’s development and future beneficiaries of the country’s progress.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was launched in Vadnagar on September 17, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel flagging off the Vadnagar-Varanasi motorcycle journey.
The initiative combines community service, youth participation, social welfare activities and public interaction, taking participants through multiple states and rural and urban communities
