Hisar, September 26: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research–Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (ICAR-CIRB), Hisar, organised a Swachhata Samvad on September 24 as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign.
The programme was conducted under this year’s theme, “Swachhta Mein Sahbhag – Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” with the objective of encouraging cleanliness, hygiene awareness and greater public participation in maintaining clean surroundings.
The activity formed part of the Day-VIII action plan of the campaign, under which Swachhata Samvad is being used as a platform for discussion and interaction on cleanliness-related issues. Around 20 contractual staff members and Young Professionals (YPs) participated in the programme.
Interactive Discussion on Waste Management
Rather than following a conventional lecture format, the programme encouraged participants to share their experiences, observations and suggestions concerning cleanliness at their homes, workplaces and surrounding areas.
The discussion covered several practical aspects of waste management, including preventing littering, responsible waste disposal, reducing unnecessary plastic use, waste segregation and adopting sustainable cleanliness practices.
Participants also discussed how everyday habits can influence the cleanliness and hygiene of communities. The interaction emphasised that maintaining clean surroundings requires regular behavioural changes and participation from individuals as well as institutions.
Focus on Jan Bhagidari
The Swachhata Samvad highlighted cleanliness as a shared social responsibility rather than an activity limited to sanitation workers or authorities.
Participants discussed simple measures such as avoiding littering, reducing the use of unnecessary plastic, segregating waste at source and ensuring its proper disposal. Such practices, the programme underlined, can contribute to healthier and cleaner surroundings when adopted consistently.
The interactive format also provided participants with an opportunity to raise practical concerns and exchange ideas on improving cleanliness practices in their respective areas.
Collective Commitment to Cleanliness
The programme concluded with participants taking a collective commitment to promote cleanliness, responsible waste management and sustainable habits in their homes, workplaces and communities.
The initiative reflected the spirit of “Swachhta Mein Sahbhag” by encouraging dialogue, active participation and collective responsibility. ICAR-CIRB’s programme also reinforced the broader objective of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign of promoting sustained public involvement in creating cleaner and healthier surroundings.
