Jammu, September 30: Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma congratulated J&K pacer Auqib Nabi on making his much-awaited international debut for India in the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Nabi was named in India’s playing XI for the match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, marking his first appearance in an ODI for the Indian senior team. India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The occasion marks another significant milestone in the journey of the Jammu and Kashmir cricketer, who has risen through the domestic ranks to earn a place in the national side. Nabi’s selection and debut have generated considerable excitement across J&K, with his achievement being seen as an inspiring moment for aspiring cricketers in the Union Territory.
Congratulating Nabi, Minister Satish Sharma extended his best wishes to the pacer and described his India debut as a matter of pride for Jammu and Kashmir. Nabi had earlier earned his maiden India call-up in August 2026 and became the third cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be included in the senior Indian setup, following Parvez Rasool and Umran Malik. He subsequently made his mark with his performances for J&K in domestic cricket.
His rise has been particularly notable following his contribution to Jammu and Kashmir’s maiden Ranji Trophy title-winning campaign, after which he attracted greater attention at the national level.
For J&K cricket, Nabi’s India debut represents another important chapter in the region’s growing presence on the national stage. Parvez Rasool had earlier become the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India, making his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2014. Umran Malik subsequently represented India in white-ball cricket.
The debut of Auqib Nabi is therefore being celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir as a significant achievement for the region’s cricketing community and a source of encouragement for young players aspiring to play at the highest level.
