New Delhi, September 30: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attended the INDIA bloc meeting at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi on Wednesday, joining leaders of several opposition parties for discussions on issues related to the Election Commission and electoral processes.
Omar Abdullah arrived in the national capital to participate in the meeting, which brought together leaders and representatives of various parties. The meeting was convened amid discussions surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and other issues concerning the functioning of the Election Commission.
The INDIA bloc meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for participating parties to discuss their positions on electoral-roll revision and work towards a coordinated response on issues concerning the poll process.
Omar Abdullah’s participation comes on the final day of the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session. According to reports, the Chief Minister travelled to Delhi for the meeting, while several other J&K leaders were not expected to attend.
The meeting was attended by leaders from multiple parties, with discussions centred on the Election Commission, SIR and related electoral matters. Reports said the participating parties were also considering their further course of action on the issues under discussion.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah’s participation placed the Union Territory’s ruling National Conference among the parties represented at the New Delhi deliberations.
The meeting comes as political parties continue discussions on electoral-roll revision and related institutional issues, with the Election Commission maintaining that its decisions are taken within the constitutional and statutory framework.
