New Delhi, October 2, 2026: The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), under the Union Ministry of Education, organised a Swachhata Shramdaan at a PM SHRI school in New Delhi as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign.
The cleanliness drive was led by DoSEL Secretary T. K. Anil Kumar and brought together students, teachers, senior officials and representatives of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). The initiative was conducted under the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, with a focus on encouraging students to adopt cleanliness and environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
Cleanliness Drive Brings School and Community Together
The Shramdaan covered multiple areas, including the school campus, an adjoining community space and the park located in front of the school.
The participation of students, teachers and officials highlighted the importance of collective community action in maintaining clean public spaces. The programme also sought to strengthen awareness among young people about their role in creating cleaner and more sustainable surroundings.
The initiative forms part of the wider Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, which promotes public participation in cleanliness-related activities and encourages Swachhata to become part of everyday life.
Students Join ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’
Following the cleanliness activity, students participated in a tree plantation programme under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’.
The plantation activity complemented the cleanliness drive by linking environmental conservation with community participation. Students were encouraged to understand the importance of trees and sustainable practices as part of their broader environmental responsibilities.
Quiz on Solid Waste Management Rules
An interactive quiz on the Solid Waste Management Rules was also organised during the programme.
The activity focused on improving students’ understanding of source segregation and responsible waste disposal. Through the quiz, students were introduced to practical aspects of managing waste and encouraged to incorporate responsible waste-handling habits into their everyday routines.
The programme highlighted the role of schools not only as centres of education but also as platforms for developing environmentally conscious citizens.
Senior Officials Participate in Shramdaan
Several senior officials from the Department of School Education and Literacy joined the cleanliness drive.
Those who participated included Additional Secretary Dheeraj Sahu, Additional Secretary Archana Sharma Awasthi, Joint Secretary Prachi Pandey, Joint Secretary Dr. Amarpreet Duggal, Deputy Director General (Statistics) Dr. Pankaj K. P. Shreyaskar, Chief Controller of Accounts Deepika Jain and KVS Commissioner Vikas Gupta, along with other KVS officials.
Their participation underlined the department’s emphasis on involving officials and educational institutions directly in activities promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness.
Focus on Sustainable Habits Among Students
The initiative placed students at the centre of activities aimed at promoting cleanliness, waste management and environmental conservation.
Through activities such as Shramdaan, tree plantation and interactive learning, the Department of School Education and Literacy sought to encourage young people to view cleanliness and environmental responsibility as regular civic practices rather than one-time activities.
The programme also supports the broader objective of building awareness around a Swachh and Viksit Bharat, with schools playing an important role in shaping sustainable habits among future generations.
