Pune, October 8, 2026: Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who passed away at the age of 75, will be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his significant contribution to Indian cinema and theatre. His last rites will be performed with full state honours at Donje near Pune on Thursday afternoon.
The Maharashtra government decided to honour the veteran actor with a state funeral, acknowledging his long and distinguished career in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, as well as his contribution to theatre.
Last Rites to Be Held at Donje
Nana Patekar had a close association with his farmhouse at Donje near Pune, where his last rites are scheduled to take place.
According to News On AIR, the cremation is scheduled for 4 PM on Thursday. Other reports have placed the timing later in the afternoon as arrangements are being finalised. The actor’s mortal remains are being brought to Pune, where people will have an opportunity to pay their last respects.
The decision to accord full state honours was announced by Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, who cited Patekar’s contribution to Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi cinema.
A Distinguished Career in Indian Cinema
Nana Patekar was known for his distinctive screen presence and powerful performances across several decades.
