New Delhi, October 9, 2026: Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh has emphasised the need for India’s armed forces to anticipate changes in the nature of warfare and adapt to emerging technologies, saying that timely preparedness is essential for success in an increasingly complex security environment.
Addressing a seminar titled “Central Role of Air Power in the Evolving Battlespace” at the Air Force Auditorium in New Delhi, the IAF chief said that waiting for changes to occur before responding could leave military forces at a disadvantage.
Singh’s remarks come amid rapid technological advancements and evolving global security challenges, which are reshaping military strategies and the conduct of modern conflicts.
Global Conflicts Reinforce the Importance of Air Power
During his address, the IAF chief highlighted how two major ongoing international conflicts, along with India’s experience during Operation Sindoor in 2025, have reinforced the importance of air power in contemporary warfare.
He underlined the need for military planners to understand emerging developments and prepare for future challenges rather than relying solely on existing strategies and capabilities.
The seminar was organised by a defence think tank at Subroto Park in New Delhi, alongside the ongoing multilateral air exercise Tarang Shakti 2026, being conducted at Jodhpur Air Force Station in Rajasthan.
Tarang Shakti 2026 Brings International Air Forces Together
The second edition of Tarang Shakti has brought together air assets from seven foreign countries, including the United States, France, Germany and Australia, alongside the Indian Air Force.
One of the notable developments in this edition is the participation of the American F-35 multi-role stealth fighter aircraft for the first time in the exercise.
The multinational exercise provides an opportunity for participating air forces to engage in joint training, exchange operational experiences and strengthen professional cooperation.
IAF Marks Its 94th Anniversary
Air Chief Marshal Singh’s remarks followed the celebrations marking the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force, held at Hindan Air Base in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on October 8.
During the Air Force Day address, he highlighted the role of air power in safeguarding India’s national interests, drawing attention to lessons from conflicts around the world.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, the IAF chief also spoke about the speed of the force’s combat operations, underscoring the importance of operational readiness and effective execution.
Indian Air Force Focuses on Future-Ready Capabilities
Established in 1932, the Indian Air Force has evolved into a network-centric, multi-domain force with capabilities designed to meet changing operational requirements.
The emphasis on anticipating developments in warfare reflects the importance of technological advancement, strategic planning and continuous adaptation in maintaining military preparedness.
As the character of conflict continues to evolve, the IAF’s focus remains on strengthening its capabilities and ensuring that it is equipped to respond effectively to emerging challenges.
Air Chief Marshal Singh’s message underlines a key principle of modern defence planning: anticipating change and preparing in advance are crucial to maintaining an operational edge
