Srinagar, October 9: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience predominantly dry weather until October 20, with brief spells of light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected in some districts over the next few days, Director Meteorological Centre Srinagar Mukhtar Ahmad said on Friday.
According to Ahmad, a weak Western Disturbance is likely to influence weather conditions around October 10 and again on October 13 and 14. However, no major spell of rainfall or snowfall is expected across the Union Territory during this period.
Light Rain Likely in Some Districts
Ahmad said a spell of light precipitation was expected around October 10, following a similar weather event around October 8, when light snowfall was also observed in some areas.
“An expected spell occurred around the 8th. Light snowfall was also observed during this period. In the coming days, there are chances of another light spell around the 10th in several districts,” he said.
He added that a similar weather pattern could develop on October 13 and 14 under the influence of a weak Western Disturbance.
“Due to a weak Western Disturbance, there are chances of light rain, thunderstorms and lightning in some districts, along with gusty winds,” Ahmad said.
The expected weather activity is likely to remain limited, with conditions varying across districts.
No Major Rainfall or Snowfall Expected
Providing an outlook for the coming days, the MeT Centre Srinagar director said the overall weather was expected to remain generally fine until October 20, despite the possibility of a few intermittent light spells.
“Overall, the weather is likely to remain generally fine until October 20, with chances of a few light spells in between. There is no major spell expected until then,” Ahmad said.
He also ruled out the possibility of any significant rainfall or snowfall in the higher reaches during the forecast period.
The outlook indicates that widespread precipitation is unlikely, although brief changes in weather conditions may occur in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Residents Advised to Exercise Caution
Ahmad said there was no significant weather activity at present that warranted a formal warning. However, he advised people to exercise caution during periods of thunderstorms and gusty winds, particularly around October 10 and between October 13 and 14.
“There is no weather activity at present that warrants a warning. However, there are chances of thunderstorms and gusty winds, particularly around the 10th and again between the 13th and 14th. People should take some precautions,” he said.
Residents are advised to follow official weather updates and remain cautious during sudden spells of lightning or strong winds.
With no major rain or snowfall expected until October 20, Jammu and Kashmir is likely to continue experiencing largely stable weather, interrupted by a few brief spells of precipitation over the coming days.
