President of India Droupadi Murmu attended the state-level Haryana Day celebrations in Kurukshetra on Sunday, marking the 60th anniversary of the formation of Haryana. During the occasion, she highlighted the achievements of the state, particularly in women’s empowerment, and described the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign as an important milestone in promoting the rights and opportunities of girls.

Addressing the celebrations, President Murmu recalled that the nationwide Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign was launched from Panipat, Haryana, in January 2015. She noted that the initiative has contributed significantly to improving awareness and encouraging greater attention towards the welfare and empowerment of girls.

The President highlighted the improvement in the Child Sex Ratio at birth, which increased from 871 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014 to approximately 915 in November 2025. She said Haryana had made notable progress over the past decade across different areas of women’s empowerment.

President Murmu also appreciated the achievements of Haryana’s daughters in international sports, mentioning athletes such as Manu Bhaker, Saweety Boora and Jaismine Lamboria, who have brought recognition to the state and the country.

She further acknowledged the contribution of Haryana’s sportspersons to India’s sporting achievements at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

Haryana Completes 60 Years of Formation

The celebrations marked six decades since Haryana was carved out as a separate state in 1966. The main programme was organised at Kurukshetra University, bringing together representatives from different sections of society.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to showcase Haryana’s development journey across agriculture, industry, education, healthcare, sports, infrastructure, women’s empowerment and cultural heritage.

Chief Minister Highlights Haryana’s Development Journey

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, while addressing the gathering, said that hardworking farmers, courageous soldiers, talented sportspersons and empowered women represent the identity of the state.

He observed that Haryana, which was considered a relatively backward region at the time of its formation in 1966, has emerged as one of the leading states in the country through the collective efforts of its people.

The Chief Minister highlighted Haryana’s contribution of approximately 3.6 per cent to India’s GDP. He also noted that the state has become the first in the country to procure 24 crops from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

He credited farmers, labourers, entrepreneurs, traders, sportspersons and women for Haryana’s progress and said that the state’s daughters are making significant contributions in diverse fields, including agriculture, sports, the armed forces and start-ups.

The 60th Haryana Day celebrations reflected the state’s journey over six decades while highlighting its aspirations for continued development, inclusive growth and greater opportunities for future generations.
