Indian Naval Ship (INS) Trishul arrived at Souda Bay in Greece on October 31 as part of its ongoing operational deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, marking another important engagement in strengthening maritime cooperation between India and Greece.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the port call will involve a series of professional and cultural engagements aimed at enhancing cooperation and strengthening institutional ties between the Indian Navy and the Hellenic Navy.
During its stay, the crew of INS Trishul will interact with senior officials of the Hellenic Navy and representatives of the Indian Embassy in Athens. The programme will include professional discussions, cross-deck visits and cultural exchanges, providing opportunities for personnel from both navies to share experiences and strengthen professional understanding.
The Indian naval personnel will also familiarise themselves with the facilities at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Souda Bay and the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC).
These engagements are expected to provide valuable exposure to maritime support infrastructure and specialised training facilities, while encouraging greater interaction between the participating naval establishments.
Tribute to Fallen Soldiers at Souda Bay War Cemetery
As part of the port visit, the crew of INS Trishul will pay homage at the Souda Bay War Cemetery, honouring the memory of soldiers who laid down their lives during military operations.
The Indian Navy ship will also remain open to visitors during its stay at the Greek port, offering an opportunity for people to visit the vessel and gain an insight into India’s naval capabilities and maritime presence.
Strengthening India-Greece Defence Relations
The visit reflects India’s continued efforts to expand naval diplomacy and strengthen defence partnerships with friendly countries.
India and Greece share a growing relationship in the defence and maritime security sectors, with regular engagements and professional exchanges contributing to stronger bilateral cooperation.
The port call at Souda Bay is expected to further consolidate maritime ties between the two navies and strengthen professional linkages through direct interaction, knowledge-sharing and cultural engagement.
INS Trishul’s Mediterranean deployment highlights the Indian Navy’s commitment to maintaining international maritime partnerships, promoting cooperation and enhancing India’s engagement with countries across strategically important maritime regions.
The visit also underscores the importance of naval diplomacy in fostering mutual trust, professional collaboration and stronger international relations.
