NOV 17: Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, conducted an extensive visit to Ward No. 50, where he urged residents to take a proactive role in the city’s Green Colony Initiative. Interacting with members of the Evergreen Park Association in Channi Himmat Sector 7, he emphasized that strong community involvement is essential for sustainable environmental improvement.
Dr. Yadav explained that the Green Colony model, first implemented in Sainik Colony, has already demonstrated impressive results, with citizens adopting eco-friendly habits and contributing to better waste management. Encouraging Channi Himmat residents to embrace the programme with equal enthusiasm, he said the locality has the potential to become Jammu’s second fully-developed Green Colony, setting a benchmark for other neighbourhoods.
Highlighting the importance of behavioural transformation, the Commissioner appealed to households to completely stop using single-use plastic bags and switch to cloth or paper alternatives. He underscored that meaningful progress in cleanliness can be achieved only when the public actively supports waste reduction and responsible disposal.
Dr. Yadav stressed the need for on-site composting of dry leaves and garden waste, noting that it eases pressure on municipal waste systems while producing valuable organic manure for local parks and gardens. He reiterated that segregation of wet and dry waste at home is the foundation of efficient waste management and prevents littering across residential areas.
He further stated that maintaining cleanliness is a shared collective duty involving citizens of all age groups, and cultivating good habits in children can secure a greener future for Jammu.
During the visit, the Commissioner also reviewed sanitation arrangements and directed staff to ensure consistent cleanliness. The meeting saw participation from JMC officials, sanitation teams, and members of the Evergreen Park Association, who shared suggestions for improving hygiene in the colony.
