JUne 6: The annual Amarnath Yatra 2025 will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 9, marking a notable change as the pilgrimage duration has been reduced to just 38 days, the shortest in recent memory. The decision has been made keeping in mind logistical improvements, weather conditions, and the overall safety of pilgrims in the wake of recent security concerns.

Every year, lakhs of devotees from across India undertake the challenging journey to the sacred Amarnath Cave located in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. The naturally formed ice Shivling at the cave is considered a divine symbol of Lord Shiva and attracts devotees of all ages. However, in 2025, the administration has taken a more cautious approach by limiting the number of travel days to ensure tighter coordination and better resource management.

A major highlight this year is the deployment of over 580 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), along with state police units, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), and bomb detection squads to ensure the safety of pilgrims along the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Surveillance infrastructure will include high-tech drone monitoring, CCTV cameras, RFID tracking devices, and mobile jammers to counter any potential threats or disruptions.

In addition, for the first time, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags will be mandatory for all pilgrims. These tags will help authorities track the movement of yatris in real-time and respond swiftly in case of emergencies. During the Yatra, temporary halts on highway traffic will be enforced to allow convoy movements without interruption.

For safety and health reasons, the Shrine Board has restricted the age limit for participation. Pilgrims below 13 years, above 70 years, and pregnant women will not be allowed to take part, even if they carry fitness certificates. The decision is aligned with previous medical advisories that warn against high-altitude strain on vulnerable groups.

The administration aims to strike a balance between tradition and safety, ensuring that spiritual seekers can undertake the journey with peace of mind. With enhanced security frameworks and better coordination between civil and military agencies, Amarnath Yatra 2025 is expected to be smoother and more secure than ever before.
