JUNE 06: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Shri Chandrasekhar Pemmasani, emphasized that a truly developed India—Viksit Bharat—is not possible without the empowerment of rural communities. Speaking at the Regional Rural Workshop under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) in Miramar, Goa, the Minister highlighted the vital link between village progress and national prosperity.
He described PMAY-G as more than just a government scheme. “It’s about turning dreams into reality. Each home built represents stability, dignity, and a secure future for a rural family,” he said. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Antyodaya, the scheme aims to uplift even the most marginalized citizens.
The Minister noted that the target under PMAY-G is to construct 4.95 crore houses by March 2029. As of now, 3.90 crore targets have been allocated, 3.69 crore houses sanctioned, and 2.76 crore homes completed. “Behind these numbers are stories of families finally sleeping peacefully, children studying safely, and elders living with respect,” he added.
Shri Pemmasani also stressed the importance of converging PMAY-G with flagship schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. “We’re not just building homes—we’re creating complete, livable habitats with clean water, sanitation, and cooking fuel,” he said.
Further, he highlighted initiatives like mason training programs, which are helping build a skilled rural workforce. “This is how we empower our youth—by giving them tools and training to shape their futures,” he noted.
Looking ahead, the Minister spoke of green housing models that are both eco-friendly and affordable, and the use of AI in beneficiary selection to make the process more transparent and fair. He also spoke about aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of reimagined microfinance in connecting rural aspirations to real economic opportunities.
As we move forward in the Amrit Kaal, Shri Pemmasani said, “It’s not just about the number of houses, but about building a sustainable and inclusive future. Every pucca home is a step towards national transformation.”
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Minister Shri Govind Gaude, and senior officials were present at the event.
