OCT 04: Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman today launched the nationwide financial awareness campaign “आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार” (Your Money, Your Right) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, aimed at helping citizens trace and reclaim their unclaimed deposits and financial assets.
The launch event was attended by Gujarat Finance Minister Shri Kanubhai Desai, Secretary (DFS) Shri M. Nagaraju, senior officials from RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA, and representatives from major financial institutions.
Speaking at the launch, the Finance Minister said the campaign’s core message is that “every rupee saved by citizens must return to them or their families.” She highlighted that unclaimed deposits, dividends, insurance proceeds, mutual fund balances, and pensions are not mere entries on paper but represent the hard-earned savings of ordinary families, which can be vital for education, healthcare, and financial stability.
Sitharaman outlined the “3A Strategy” — Awareness, Accessibility, and Action — as the foundation of the initiative. Awareness will ensure citizens are informed about unclaimed assets; Accessibility will simplify digital tools and outreach at the district level; and Action will focus on transparent, time-bound claim settlements.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, in a message, lauded the initiative as a collective effort to strengthen public trust, dignity, and empowerment. Gujarat’s Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai expressed pride in hosting the campaign’s launch and affirmed full state support.
Secretary, DFS, Shri M. Nagaraju revealed that as of August 2025, over ₹75,000 crore in unclaimed deposits had been transferred to RBI’s Depositor Education and Awareness Fund, alongside significant unclaimed sums in insurance, mutual funds, and dividends.
Running from October to December 2025, the campaign will cover every district across India. Digital demonstrations, helpdesks, and awareness drives will guide citizens in reclaiming their rightful savings, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to financial inclusion, transparency, and citizen empowerment.
