APRIL 13: A joint enforcement drive was conducted today across various parts of Jammu North to ensure strict compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and to promote road safety among commuters. The initiative aimed at cracking down on traffic violations while simultaneously raising awareness among drivers about responsible road behavior.

The drive was organised under the supervision of the District Administration, with active participation from the Motor Vehicles Department, Traffic Police, and the Police Department. Teams from these departments were strategically deployed at multiple checkpoints throughout Jammu North to carry out thorough vehicle inspections and provide on-the-spot education regarding traffic regulations.

The enforcement teams focused not just on penalizing violators but also on educating the public about the importance of following traffic laws. The campaign emphasised a dual approach—strict enforcement coupled with public awareness to foster a culture of safety on the roads. Particular attention was given to light motor vehicles and passenger carriers, considering their significant presence on urban roads.

Over the course of the drive, approximately 500 vehicles were inspected at various checkpoints. As many as 55 vehicles were e-challaned for a range of violations under different provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. These offences included driving without valid documents, overloading, improper parking, and violations related to vehicle fitness and pollution norms. The total fine amount expected to be collected from these challans is ₹1,34,400.

In addition to legal enforcement, the teams interacted with commuters, educating them on the consequences of traffic rule violations, both in terms of legal penalties and risks to life. Pamphlets and verbal advisories were shared with drivers and passengers, urging them to follow speed limits, wear seat belts and helmets, avoid using mobile phones while driving, and maintain vehicle documentation.

The enforcement operation was jointly led by ARTO Flying Squad Er. Bipen Singh Charak, DySP Traffic North Anubhuti and her team, Tehsildar North Aman Kumar Anand and his staff, Motor Vehicle Inspector Azad Hussain, DTI Showket Amin, SHO Janipur and team, and MVTA Taranjot Singh. Their coordinated efforts contributed to the smooth execution of the drive, reinforcing the commitment of authorities to improving road safety in the region.

The District Administration has reiterated that such drives will continue in the future, aiming to build a safer and more disciplined traffic environment for all road users.
