AUG 19: In the aftermath of a devastating cloudburst that struck Jodh village in the Ghatti area of Kathua, BJP Jammu and Kashmir President Sat Sharma along with MLA Rajiv Jasrotia promptly conducted an aerial survey to assess the extent of damage and coordinate a relief response. The tragic incident, which occurred late Friday night, caused widespread destruction across the remote village, leaving multiple families in grief and crisis.
After the aerial inspection, the leaders visited the affected region on the ground to meet residents and interact with families who lost their loved ones in the calamity. During their visit, Satpal Sharma and Rajiv Jasrotia offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of every possible help and support from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir as well as from the Central Government. They emphasized that the administration is fully committed to supporting the victims and ensuring swift delivery of relief and rehabilitation.
According to Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, the disaster has claimed at least seven lives and left eleven others injured. The Deputy Commissioner also added that rescue operations were carried out immediately after receiving information about the cloudburst, with teams from the District Administration, Police, SDRF, and Indian Army working together to assist the affected populace. Emergency medical aid was provided to the injured and arrangements were made to shift them to nearby hospitals for specialized treatment.
During the ground visit, local residents shared their concerns and immediate needs with the visiting dignitaries, who directed the district administration to prioritize relief distribution and restoration of essential services such as water, electricity, and road connectivity.
Officials from District Police Kathua and Information & Public Relations Department were also present at the site to supervise the ongoing relief work. The leaders also praised the relentless efforts of the security forces and voluntary organizations in reaching out to the affected families at a critical time.
Local administration has appealed to people residing in vulnerable areas to stay alert and follow official advisories, especially considering the current unpredictable weather conditions across the region.
