Jan 30: In a major boost to public transport infrastructure in the Jammu region, the Chief Minister today inaugurated the newly constructed Bus Stand at Thandi Khui in Samba district. Built at a cost of ₹18.53 crore, the modern, multi-storeyed facility aims to improve passenger convenience, strengthen regional connectivity, and upgrade transport services for the local population.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize civic infrastructure and enhance mobility across Jammu & Kashmir. The new bus stand is designed to cater to the growing passenger footfall while providing safe, organised, and comfortable facilities for commuters and transport operators alike.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Sogami, DDC Chairman Samba Keshav Dutt Sharma, and MLA Vijaypur Chander Parkash Ganga, along with senior district and transport department officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that robust transport infrastructure is essential for economic growth, social inclusion, and improved quality of life. He noted that the Thandi Khui Bus Stand will serve as an important transit hub for the region, easing daily travel for commuters, students, workers, and traders while also supporting tourism and local commerce.
The state-of-the-art facility includes well-planned bus bays, passenger waiting areas, ticketing counters, sanitation facilities, and designated spaces for parking and allied services. The multi-storeyed design ensures efficient use of space while maintaining smooth vehicular movement and pedestrian safety.
Officials highlighted that the project has been developed keeping future requirements in mind, with provisions for handling increased traffic and improved operational efficiency. The new bus stand is also expected to generate local employment opportunities and contribute to planned urban development in and around Samba.
Local representatives welcomed the inauguration, terming it a long-standing demand of the area. They expressed confidence that the upgraded transport facility will significantly reduce congestion, improve service delivery, and enhance overall commuter experience.
