OCT 1:In a landmark step to strengthen sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister inaugurated three major projects at the Government College of Physical Education, Ganderbal, under the Youth Services and Sports Department. The newly developed facilities include a Prefabricated Indoor Badminton Hall, a Synthetic Athletic Track, and a Synthetic Football Turf, collectively built at an investment of over ₹12 crore.
These modern sports facilities are expected to transform Ganderbal into a hub of sporting excellence, providing young athletes with access to advanced training opportunities and professional-standard infrastructure. The Indoor Badminton Hall is designed to host tournaments and provide year-round training irrespective of weather conditions, while the Synthetic Athletic Track will offer world-class running surfaces for budding sprinters and long-distance runners. Similarly, the Synthetic Football Turf is set to encourage football enthusiasts by giving them a professional-grade ground to sharpen their skills.
The Chief Minister, while inaugurating the projects, emphasized that sports are not only essential for physical fitness but also for fostering discipline, team spirit, and leadership qualities among the youth. He highlighted the government’s commitment to nurturing talent by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure that meets global standards.
The projects are part of the broader initiative to upgrade sports facilities across Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that talented athletes from the region are given the best possible environment to excel at national and international levels. The CM expressed confidence that these new assets will inspire a new generation of sportspersons from Ganderbal and beyond, giving them the confidence to compete at higher stages.
He also underlined the importance of community participation in sports development, encouraging schools, colleges, and local organizations to make maximum use of these facilities.
