OCT 05: In a landmark step toward empowering women in India’s industrial sector, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), inaugurated the company’s first all-women-operated Central Store Unit at its Central Workshop in Korba, Chhattisgarh.

Launched under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, the initiative marks another milestone in the vision of “Nari Shakti se Rashtra Shakti.” It follows SECL’s earlier success of establishing Coal India’s first women-operated dispensary at Bilaspur.

The new Central Store Unit, managed entirely by a team of eight women officers and staff led by Ms. Sapna Ikka, Senior Manager (E&M) and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad alumna, will oversee spare parts supply and inventory management. The facility operates on a modern SAP-based digital system, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Shri Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL, alongside Directors N. Franklin Jaykumar, Biranchi Das, R.C. Mahapatra, and Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain. Outstanding women employees were also felicitated for their contributions.

CMD Shri Duhan lauded the achievement, calling it “a progressive step toward inclusive growth and women’s leadership in core operations.” He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the vision of Union Minister of Coal, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, to increase women’s participation in the coal sector.

This all-women Central Store Unit stands as a symbol of gender-inclusive growth, strengthening Coal India’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat and promoting women-led development in the industrial domain.
