NOV 18: Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav delivered India’s National Statement at the High-Level Segment of the UNFCCC COP30 in Belém, Brazil, on 17 November 2025. Addressing the gathering in the heart of the Amazon—described by him as a “living symbol of the planet’s ecological wealth”—the Minister called for COP30 to become a landmark ‘COP of Implementation’ and a ‘COP of Delivery on Promises’.
Shri Yadav urged developed nations to scale up climate ambition, stating that they must achieve net-zero targets “far earlier” than currently committed. Emphasizing the urgency of global support for developing countries, he insisted that climate finance should move from billions to trillions, and must be new, additional, concessional, and free from restrictive intellectual property barriers that hinder the flow of affordable climate technologies.
Highlighting India’s climate achievements under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Minister noted that India has reduced its emission intensity by over 36% since 2005. He added that non-fossil fuel sources now make up more than half of India’s total installed electricity capacity—an NDC milestone achieved five years ahead of the 2030 target. India, he announced, will submit its revised NDCs for 2035 and its first Biennial Transparency Report on schedule.
Shri Yadav also pointed to India’s global climate leadership through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuel Alliance, Nuclear Mission, and Green Hydrogen Mission. He highlighted a massive community-led effort that resulted in the plantation of over 2 billion plants in sixteen months, demonstrating the power of collective climate action.
He concluded by reaffirming India’s commitment to climate justice and shared global responsibility.
