Nov 18, 2025: The 32nd meeting of the Northern Zonal Council was convened in Faridabad, Haryana, bringing together top leadership from the northern states and Union Territories. The meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, and focused on strengthening inter-state cooperation, resolving regional challenges, and accelerating development across the northern region.
The Northern Zonal Council, established to promote dialogue and address inter-state issues, serves as an essential platform for improving coordination between states. The 32nd session continued this objective by reviewing progress across multiple sectors and identifying areas requiring collective action.
During the meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah underlined the importance of collaborative governance. He highlighted that stronger coordination among northern states would contribute to improved security, efficient public service delivery, and balanced regional development. The discussions centred on infrastructure expansion, internal security, border management, cybercrime, disaster preparedness, and smoother implementation of centrally sponsored schemes.
Several issues related to law and order were reviewed, with emphasis on strengthening intelligence sharing, enhancing police coordination, and addressing emerging security challenges. The Council also evaluated progress on key connectivity projects aimed at improving road, rail and digital infrastructure.
The participating states shared updates on regional priorities, administrative reforms, and efforts to boost economic activities. The Council reiterated its commitment to resolving inter-state matters through dialogue and ensuring faster grievance redressal mechanisms. Representatives also discussed initiatives to streamline public utility services and remove bureaucratic barriers affecting citizens.
The meeting further highlighted the Centre’s commitment to supporting states in achieving sustainable development goals. Special focus was placed on improving cooperative growth models, modernising agricultural systems, and enhancing disaster response capabilities, especially in regions prone to floods, landslides, and seismic activities.
The Northern Zonal Council meeting concluded with a shared understanding that stronger regional cooperation is vital for the overall progress of northern India. The leadership acknowledged that consistent dialogue and timely implementation of decisions will help states jointly tackle existing challenges while preparing for future demands.
