JUNE 19: In a proactive move to address local concerns and enhance public service delivery, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Ms. Nidhi Malik, IAS, carried out an extensive inspection of various areas in Reasi town. The field visit underscored the district administration’s commitment to responsive governance and people-centric development.
During the inspection, DC Malik actively engaged with local residents, listening to their grievances and concerns related to essential civic amenities. Citizens highlighted several pressing issues including inadequate street lighting, poor drainage infrastructure, irregular water supply, and gaps in basic healthcare services. Taking prompt note of the situation, the Deputy Commissioner issued immediate directions to the concerned departments for swift redressal of these issues.
Officials from key departments accompanied her during the visit, ensuring that observations made on the ground were documented and translated into actionable plans. Special focus was laid on restoring and improving street lighting to ensure public safety during night hours, especially in densely populated and commercially active zones.
In terms of drainage and sanitation, DC Malik instructed the municipal authorities to take urgent measures for desilting and cleaning clogged drains, particularly ahead of the monsoon season. Water supply deficiencies were also discussed in detail, with clear directives issued to enhance distribution networks and ensure regular availability of potable water to all households.
Healthcare was another key area of focus. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the condition of existing health centers in the town and discussed strategies to improve medical outreach and availability of essential services to the public, particularly in underserved pockets.
In addition to civic infrastructure, tourism development featured prominently in the visit. DC Malik highlighted the immense potential of Reasi as a cultural and natural tourism hub and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to improve public facilities, signage, and cleanliness in tourist zones. She emphasized that improving civic services not only benefits residents but also enhances the overall experience for visitors.
This inspection reflects the administration’s strong intent to work closely with the people, ensuring that local governance is transparent, accountable, and efficient.
