Jan 20: In a significant step towards strengthening the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the 41st meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, along with Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, at the district headquarters.
The meeting focused on reviewing the prevailing drug scenario in the district and devising a comprehensive strategy to curb drug abuse and narcotics trafficking through coordinated and sustained action. Senior officers from the police, civil administration, health, education and other stakeholder departments participated in the deliberations.
Emphasis was laid on enhancing inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective enforcement against drug peddlers and networks operating in the region. The chair underscored the importance of intelligence sharing, timely action and strict legal measures to dismantle supply chains involved in narcotics trafficking.
The role of technology-driven surveillance also came under focus, with directions issued to strengthen CCTV coverage at identified vulnerable locations. Officials were instructed to ensure proper monitoring and maintenance of surveillance systems to deter criminal activities and assist law enforcement agencies in prompt action.
Apart from enforcement, the meeting highlighted the need for intensified awareness campaigns, particularly among youth and students, to educate them about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Schools, colleges and community platforms were identified as key channels for spreading awareness and promoting a drug-free culture.
Rehabilitation and de-addiction measures formed a critical part of the discussions. The district administration reiterated its commitment to providing counselling, medical support and rehabilitation services for affected individuals, enabling their reintegration into society with dignity and purpose.
The Deputy Commissioner and SSP stressed the effective implementation of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, calling upon all departments to work in close coordination to achieve tangible results. They urged officials to adopt a holistic approach combining enforcement, prevention, awareness and rehabilitation to address the drug menace comprehensively.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to intensify monitoring, strengthen ground-level execution and ensure collective responsibility in making Rajouri a drug-free district.
