OCT 10:Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shri Ramesh Kumar, chaired a high-level meeting to review actionable measures for improving traffic management and road discipline across Jammu City. The meeting aimed to streamline vehicular movement, reduce congestion, and ensure safer roads through coordinated efforts between multiple departments.

Senior officers from the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Traffic Police, Transport Department, and Urban Development authorities attended the meeting and presented updates on existing bottlenecks, ongoing works, and proposed interventions.

During the review, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized the urgent need to identify and demarcate designated parking zones across busy markets, government offices, and residential areas. He directed the JMC to expedite the process in consultation with the Traffic Police, ensuring maximum utilization of available urban spaces. The establishment of well-marked parking areas, he said, would significantly reduce on-road parking and improve the overall traffic flow.

Shri Kumar instructed the Traffic Department to strictly enforce traffic rules, particularly against violations such as unauthorized parking, over-speeding, and encroachments on footpaths. He called for a combination of awareness and enforcement, ensuring that citizens cooperate with authorities in maintaining road discipline.

The Divisional Commissioner also discussed short- and long-term mobility solutions, including synchronized traffic signals, improved signage, smart monitoring through CCTV, and better pedestrian facilities. He directed all departments to adopt an integrated approach and submit timelines for implementation of key measures.

Highlighting the importance of public participation, Shri Kumar urged citizens to follow parking norms and support civic efforts aimed at creating a safer and smoother commuting experience in Jammu.

The meeting concluded with a roadmap for the next phase of traffic improvement initiatives, reinforcing the administration’s focus on urban mobility, safety, and sustainability as essential pillars of Jammu’s urban development strategy.
