JAN 2: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s strategic and technological edge, with its indigenous weapon systems proving decisive in recent military operations. This was highlighted during a visit to the DRDO Headquarters in New Delhi on the occasion of the organisation’s 68th Foundation Day.
During the visit, the leadership lauded Team DRDO for its unwavering commitment to bolstering India’s indigenous defence capabilities and equipping the Armed Forces with state-of-the-art technologies and advanced platforms. The occasion served as a moment to reflect on DRDO’s journey of innovation, self-reliance and excellence in defence research since its inception.
Speaking on the significance of DRDO’s contributions, it was noted that weapon systems developed by the organisation played a decisive role during Operation Sindoor, underscoring their operational effectiveness, reliability and strategic importance. The successful deployment of these systems stands as a testament to DRDO’s professionalism and its mission-driven approach towards safeguarding national interests.
Over the past decades, DRDO has emerged as the backbone of India’s defence innovation ecosystem, driving the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the strategic sector. From missile systems and electronic warfare to advanced radars, drones and combat platforms, DRDO’s research and development efforts have significantly reduced India’s dependence on imports while enhancing the combat readiness of the Armed Forces.
The visit also highlighted the close synergy between DRDO scientists, engineers and the Armed Forces, which has been instrumental in translating cutting-edge research into battlefield-ready solutions. This collaborative approach ensures that defence technologies are aligned with operational requirements and evolving security challenges.
Operation Sindoor, in particular, showcased the maturity of indigenous systems and validated years of sustained investment in research, testing and innovation. The performance of DRDO-developed technologies during the operation reinforced confidence in India’s domestic defence manufacturing and research capabilities.
On its 68th Foundation Day, DRDO was commended not only for its technological achievements but also for nurturing a strong scientific culture focused on innovation, precision and national service. The organisation’s efforts have contributed to strengthening deterrence, enhancing strategic autonomy and positioning India as a credible defence technology power.
Looking ahead, DRDO is expected to play an even more critical role as India accelerates defence modernisation, embraces emerging technologies and expands its footprint in advanced domains such as artificial intelligence, hypersonics, space and cyber warfare. Continued support, policy backing and collaboration with industry and academia are set to further amplify its impact.
The Foundation Day visit reaffirmed the nation’s trust in DRDO as a key pillar of India’s security architecture. As the organisation advances towards new frontiers of defence innovation, its enduring commitment to excellence and self-reliance remains central to protecting India’s sovereignty and national interests
