SEP 25:The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 8th edition of its environmental accounts publication, titled “Environmental Accounting on Forest – 2025”, on September 25, 2025. The release took place during the inaugural session of the 29th Conference of Central and State Statistical Organizations (CoCSSO) held in Chandigarh.
The publication is divided into two volumes:

Volume I focuses on national-level data and methodology. It features:

Physical Asset Accounts – tracking forest area under various categories over time.

Extent Accounts – documenting changes in forest ecosystem extent.

Condition Accounts – evaluating the quality and characteristics of forests.

Service Accounts – quantifying the value of forest services like timber, non-timber produce, carbon sequestration, and cultural benefits.

Volume II presents detailed data for individual States and Union Territories, capturing decadal changes in forest assets, ecosystem conditions, and services. It also summarizes state-level efforts in forest accounting based on literature review.
The India State of Forest Report (ISFR) serves as a key data source, along with other reports such as ICFRE’s Forestry Statistics 2021, SEEA guidelines, NCAVES Report, and national accounts data.
