OCT 19:The heart of Srinagar city, Lal Chowk, burst into a riot of colours as Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, inaugurated the 3rd Chrysanthemum Show, a spectacular floral event jointly organized by SKUAST-Kashmir, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).
The exhibition showcases a wide array of chrysanthemum varieties, meticulously cultivated by horticulture experts and students of SKUAST-K. The vibrant blossoms, arranged in creative floral patterns, transformed the historic Lal Chowk square into a garden of hues, attracting citizens, tourists, and photography enthusiasts alike.
While interacting with participants, Divisional Commissioner Garg praised the collaborative effort of the organizing institutions for bringing such a refreshing concept to the city’s urban core. He expressed confidence that the Chrysanthemum Show will soon become as iconic and popular as the Tulip Festival, symbolizing Srinagar’s evolving cultural and aesthetic identity.
He noted that floral exhibitions not only promote environmental awareness and community participation but also serve as a soft tourism driver, enhancing the city’s appeal during the autumn season, when Kashmir’s natural beauty is at its finest.
Officials from SMC and SSCL stated that such initiatives align with the broader Smart City vision of blending sustainability with cultural vibrancy. They also emphasized the importance of public spaces like Lal Chowk being used for civic engagement, art, and eco-tourism.
The event witnessed participation from local gardeners, students, and nature lovers, while residents appreciated the initiative for reviving the charm of Srinagar’s historic city centre.
With the Chrysanthemum Show in full bloom, Srinagar once again reaffirms its position as a city of gardens and grace, where every season brings a new celebration of nature.
