OCT 19:The Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, today addressed the 16th Annual Conference of the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Jammu & Kashmir branch, held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
In her keynote address, the Minister lauded the contribution of dental professionals in safeguarding public health and emphasized the need to recognize dentistry as an integral component of preventive and systemic healthcare. She remarked that oral health plays a critical role in overall well-being, influencing not only physical health but also confidence, nutrition, and quality of life.
Sakeena Itoo highlighted that dental diseases are often early indicators of more serious systemic disorders, making dentists the first line of defense in the prevention and early detection of health complications. “Our dental professionals deserve due recognition and parity with MBBS doctors, given their essential role in promoting holistic healthcare,” she asserted.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening dental infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir through better facilities, modern equipment, and training programs. She assured the gathering that the Health and Medical Education Department is working on policies that promote collaboration between dental and general healthcare systems, ensuring accessible and equitable oral health services for all citizens.
The conference, attended by eminent dental surgeons, academicians, and students from across the Union Territory, featured deliberations on advancements in oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, and preventive care, along with discussions on ethical and technological innovations shaping the future of dental practice.
The event concluded with an acknowledgment of the IDA J&K’s efforts to foster professional development and public awareness about oral hygiene, reflecting a shared vision of a healthier and more informed society.
