OCT 19:The Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Javid Ahmad Dar, inaugurated the Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition at Baramulla today, an event organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Mela brought together progressive farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, scientists, and innovators from across the region to exchange ideas, explore new technologies, and celebrate the spirit of agricultural transformation. A wide range of modern farm machinery, high-yield seed varieties, organic produce, and sustainable cultivation techniques were showcased, offering visitors a glimpse into the future of smart and climate-resilient farming.

In his address, Minister Javid Ahmad Dar emphasized that the Kisan Mela serves as a dynamic platform to empower the farming community, bridge the gap between research and field application, and promote self-reliance among rural households. “Farmers are the backbone of our economy, and it is our collective duty to ensure they have access to modern tools, scientific knowledge, and market linkages that can boost productivity and income,” he stated.

The Minister appreciated the Agriculture Department’s efforts to organize such interactive exhibitions that help farmers adopt eco-friendly and technology-driven practices. He urged all stakeholders to work together towards achieving sustainable and profitable agriculture, aligned with the government’s vision of doubling farmers’ income and ensuring food security.

Officials from the Agriculture Department highlighted ongoing initiatives in organic farming, integrated pest management, agri-startups, and soil health improvement, encouraging farmers to diversify their practices and explore value addition.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, students, and self-help groups, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from experts and witness cutting-edge innovations first-hand.

With its vibrant exhibits and knowledge-sharing sessions, the Baramulla Kisan Mela reaffirmed Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to modernizing agriculture while preserving traditional wisdom.
