OCT 19: In a significant step toward deepening cultural and spiritual cooperation between India and Russia, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, met Mr. Batu Sergeyevich Khasikov, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, in Russia today.

The meeting underscored the age-old spiritual and cultural connection between India and the Buddhist community of Kalmykia — the only Buddhist-majority region in Europe. The Lieutenant Governor extended heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Khasikov and the people of Kalmykia for their warm hospitality and for facilitating the exposition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha in the republic.

Shri Sinha said that the exposition of the sacred relics has created a new chapter in India–Russia cultural diplomacy, strengthening spiritual unity and promoting global messages of peace, compassion, and harmony espoused by Lord Buddha.

During the interaction, both leaders discussed avenues to further enhance bilateral cooperation in culture, education, tourism, and interfaith understanding. The Lieutenant Governor announced that an “India Festival” will be organized in Kalmykia in April 2026, aimed at celebrating India’s art, heritage, yoga, and spiritual traditions. The event will also mark a continuation of India’s cultural engagement with Russia under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting global cultural outreach.

LG Sinha expressed optimism that the upcoming festival will serve as a symbol of friendship and shared values between the two nations. He emphasized that such initiatives reflect India’s commitment to building bridges of peace and spirituality through cultural exchange.

Mr. Khasikov appreciated India’s gesture of sharing the sacred relics and reaffirmed Kalmykia’s commitment to strengthening ties with India in the fields of culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The meeting concluded on a warm note, symbolizing the deep-rooted civilizational bond between India and Russia that continues to inspire mutual respect and global harmony.
