Jammu, August 13, 2026: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is set to organise “Jammu Runs for Unity – A Pledge for a Clean Amarnath Yatra” on August 16, bringing together citizens through a fitness and environmental awareness initiative.
The event will begin at 5:00 AM from Bahu Plaza and will feature separate 5-km and 10-km running categories. The run is aimed at promoting fitness, community participation and cleanliness, while encouraging greater public responsibility towards maintaining a clean environment during the Amarnath Yatra.
Run to Carry Message of Cleanliness and Unity
The initiative is being organised by JMC with a focus on combining physical fitness with a broader message of civic responsibility. Participants will run through important parts of Jammu city, including Gole Market and Apsara Road, before returning to the starting point at Bahu Plaza.
By linking the event with the message of a clean Amarnath Yatra, the civic body is seeking to encourage residents and visitors to pay greater attention to waste management and environmental cleanliness during the pilgrimage season.
The initiative also highlights the role of community participation in keeping public spaces clean and creating a healthier urban environment.
5K and 10K Categories
The event will offer participants two running options, covering 5 kilometres and 10 kilometres, making it accessible to people with different levels of running experience.
The run will start and finish at Bahu Plaza, with the designated route passing through Gole Market and Apsara Road.
The event is expected to provide an opportunity for residents to come together around a shared message of unity, fitness and environmental responsibility.
Bib Collection on August 15
Participants can collect their race bibs on August 15 between 2 PM and 5 PM from the JMC Building at Town Hall, Jammu.
The early morning start on August 16 is intended to allow participants to complete the run in relatively cooler conditions while maintaining the event’s fitness-oriented character.
A Civic Message Beyond the Run
The “Jammu Runs for Unity” initiative goes beyond a sporting event by connecting fitness with public awareness and environmental responsibility.
The cleanliness message is particularly relevant during the Amarnath pilgrimage period, when increased movement of visitors places greater importance on responsible waste disposal and protection of public spaces.
Through such community-focused programmes, JMC is seeking to encourage citizens to contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Jammu while promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
The August 16 run is therefore expected to serve as a collective pledge for unity, fitness, cleanliness and responsible participation in keeping the Amarnath Yatra environment clean.
