19 May: Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has introduced new bus services operating through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway while also revising the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar route to improve passenger convenience, travel efficiency, and regional connectivity.
The move is part of efforts to modernise public transportation services and make use of newly developed highway infrastructure aimed at reducing travel time and improving road connectivity across key regions.
According to officials, the newly launched services on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway are expected to offer smoother travel, faster transit, and improved passenger comfort for commuters travelling between major destinations connected through the corridor.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, one of India’s largest infrastructure projects, has been developed to strengthen transport efficiency and reduce congestion on existing highway routes. State transport authorities believe integrating bus operations with the expressway network will significantly improve long-distance road travel.
GSRTC officials stated that the revised Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar route has also been planned keeping in mind operational efficiency and better accessibility for passengers travelling between the two important Gujarat cities.
The updated route is expected to reduce travel duration and enhance public transport reliability for daily commuters, business travellers, and long-distance passengers.
Transport experts say improved road infrastructure combined with efficient public bus services can play a major role in reducing private vehicle dependency and promoting affordable mobility.
Public transport remains a critical part of Gujarat’s transport network, particularly for intercity travel and regional connectivity. With increasing urbanisation and rising traffic pressure, transport corporations are focusing on route optimisation, passenger safety, and faster travel systems.
Officials added that the integration of bus services with high-speed expressway corridors reflects broader efforts to modernise India’s public transportation infrastructure.
Passengers travelling through the new routes are expected to benefit from improved road conditions, reduced fuel consumption, and better time management during long-distance travel.
The revised services also highlight the growing importance of highway infrastructure projects in shaping regional economic activity, trade movement, and public mobility.
Over the past few years, India has significantly expanded its expressway and highway network to support economic growth, logistics efficiency, and transportation modernisation.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in particular is being viewed as a transformative infrastructure corridor capable of improving connectivity between major industrial and commercial centres.
GSRTC officials said the corporation will continue monitoring passenger response and operational performance to further improve services in line with commuter requirements.
The expansion and revision of bus routes are expected to strengthen connectivity while encouraging greater use of public transport systems across Gujarat and neighbouring regions.
