India Strengthens Global Cooperation on Labour, Skills, and Social Protection at Doha Summit

NOV 07: Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, represented India at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, where he highlighted the nation’s transformative achievements in social protection, poverty alleviation, and inclusive growth.

Speaking at a NITI Aayog side event titled “Pathways Out of Poverty: India’s Experience in Empowering the Last Mile,” Dr. Mandaviya noted that India has lifted nearly 250 million people out of multidimensional poverty while expanding social security coverage to over 64% of its population. He underscored India’s focus on empowering women and youth, with over 118 million schoolchildren benefiting from mid-day meals and 14 million youth trained under Skill India Mission. The new Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana aims to generate 35 million formal jobs.

At the ILO’s Global Coalition for Social Justice Spotlight Session, Dr. Mandaviya reaffirmed India’s dedication to advancing fairness, inclusion, and responsible business practices. He highlighted India’s creation of 170 million jobs between 2017 and 2023 and the near-doubling of women’s workforce participation.

During a series of bilateral meetings with leaders from Qatar, Romania, Russia, the EU, and ILO, the Minister discussed strengthening cooperation in labour, skilling, and social protection. He also engaged with the Indian community in Qatar, praising their contributions to India–Qatar relations and briefing them on India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Dr. Mandaviya’s participation reaffirmed India’s leadership in shaping a global dialogue on social justice and equitable development.
